Gridzilla Puzzles

                                                      Hi! Midi themeless today. Clues and answers range from instaplonks (in Puzzmo -speak) to downright odd. There's a bit more (non-obscure) crosswordese than I'd like, so I'm focusing on being more eagle-eyed around fill in general. This puzzle also contains two examples of my favorite cluing angle: defining an idiom literally. EXAMPLE: "Be blunt, like when talking about shovels" for "call a spade a spade."  In other news: I beat my best time on the NYT puzzle by getting 2:51 on the Monday this week .   Hi! New updates on the blog today. First of all, I was in Just One Clue 3 this year! I'm right in the middle of the puzzle (65-Down). It released at the ACPT, but I forgot to announce on the blog. Second, I'm going to start putting title cards on the PuzzleMe applets so it doesn't automatically start when you open the page. The puzzle today is a bit of an odd one. I couldn't get the theme answers nicely in one open grid where they weren't too far apart, so they all get their own sections. The top and bottom sections were the first I thought of.
